Stinson PTA After School Enrichment Programs are offered each semester for an additional fee to all students. These programs are held immediately after school, usually on Wednesdays and/or Fridays for 8-10  weeks.  Past programs include LEGO by Playwell, USA Chess, Mad Science, Drama Kids, and Young Rembrandts.

 


 

FALL 2018 CLASSES

 

 

 

 

Young Rembrandts

(8 Classes) $105 per student

Wednesday Classes: October 3, 17, 24, November 7, 14, 28, December 5, 12

(no class on 10/10, 10/31, or 11/21)

Registration opens September 6th and closes September 26th

(no registrations will be accepted after closing)

 

Young Rembrandts will provide their Elementary Drawing classes to grades Kindergarten to 2nd and Cartooning classes to grades 3rd to 5th. Students will draw a new exciting lesson every class while learning true artist concepts in art, drawing, and color technique.

USA Chess/Active Learning Services

(10 Classes) $150 per student - includes a tournament and awards

Friday Classes: October 5, 12, 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16, 30, December 7, 14

(no class on 11/23)

Registration opens September 10th and closes September 26th

(no registrations will be accepted after closing)

 

The class consists of instruction time and practice time. A one hour class usually consists of 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of practice. Different methods will be used in order to teach different concepts including worksheets and practice time. Students will learn opening moves, middle game and end game. They will work on tactics such as pins, forks, skewers, double attacks, decoying and blockades. After learning the opening and middle game, during the endgame the student will learn how to checkmate the opponent's king to end the game.

PTA’s ability to offer these programs depends on the involvement of our volunteers that do everything except teach the classes to ensure they meet our high standards of success.

 

We are currently seeking to fill several positions on our 2018-19 After School Enrichment Program Committee.

  After School Enrichment Program Chair(s) (1-2 people for the school year): Lead all aspects of the After School Enrichment Programs. Works with the On-site Coordinators and other PTA board members to plan, research vendors, create advertising, and recruit volunteers.   

 

•   On-Site Coordinator(s) (2-3 people per semester): We need 2-3 people each semester to be the lead on-campus during the 8/10 weeks of classes. You will be the main point-of-contact with ONE program partner, coordinate our parent volunteers and organize student pick up and dismissal to ensure the program rocks! No teaching required! Candidates must be present on campus from 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm for each week of the 8-week program. 

 

•   In-Classroom Volunteers(s) (50-80 people per semester): We need 50+ people each semester on-site in each classroom during the 8/10 weeks of classes. You will assist in the classroom and help with the student dismissal process. No teaching required! Candidates must be present on campus from 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm.  You don’t have to sign up for all weeks.  We also need substitutes.

 

•   Vendor Research & Recommendation (3-5 people): Would you like to see a specific type of after school class offered at Stinson? Would you like to bring a new learning opportunity to your child and other students? We need 3-5 people to research vendor programs and provide recommendations to the committee each semester.
