Letter from Principal Michele Taylor
Welcome, Stinson community, to our PTA web page. You have come to the site of an amazing group of parents, teachers and community members. I am honored and privileged to become the second principal of Stinson Elementary School. In this role, I look forward to working closely with the PTA.
Our PTA was established in the spring of 2000. That summer dozens of parents and students came to help the Stinson staff unpack boxes, assemble equipment, and set up classrooms to be ready for the opening of our new school. What a great example of a community coming together for a common goal. The Stinson PTA made the commitment to focus its time, talents, energies and resources in our children’s education, safety and welfare.
The passion and dedication of the PTA continues to this day. They continue to support the students, teachers and families in anyway they can. For the community the PTA sponsors the fall picnic, family art day, bike rodeo, skate nights and held a 10th Anniversary Picnic. They also support quality education by returning money from PTA sponsored fund raisers directly to the school for supplemental curriculum materials, student learning, staff professional development, projects, special school programs and workshops.
That is only the tip of the iceberg. They also take an active role in Red Ribbon Week programs and incentives, Stinson Cares, Fine Arts Day, Field Day, Class Parties, Book Fair, and Teacher Appreciation Week. They coordinate service projects for the school such as the school supply sale. And finally they help with all school communication. They publish this webpage, and consistently update the information. They put out the Star to Star eNewsletter and put together the Thursday packets that come home weekly.
Wow, what an asset the PTA is to Stinson. Without the effort of our volunteers Stinson would not be the exceptional school it is today. Many Stinson volunteers are also PTA members. These men and women log thousands of hours serving as chaperones for field trips and camp, helping with school programs and choir concerts, parties, helping teachers make materials, decorating our halls, bringing treats for teachers, making costumes, and simply helping wherever they are needed.
Finally, the Stinson PTA keeps parents and community members informed about local and state issues that impact students and/or education. This has included information about school financing, district bonds, taxes, and safety and security. PTA is one of the backbones of Stinson Elementary. The members of the Stinson PTA are caring, compassionate, creative and always willing to help the teachers and students. I encourage you to join the Stinson PTA. Together we can make a difference in the lives of our children.
